I wrote a whole post about Turkish coffee
and then Google thought it would be funny to delete it. Normally in these
situations (yes this happens a lot, my life is a shambles), I would just write
a new post, but I had a bit of a connection to that post so now that it’s lost
I’m not going to try and remake it.
Turkish coffee is usually enjoyed as an
after dinner beverage, it is thick, muddy and unbearably strong in all the best
ways. Men are usually served water with their little cup, which always has
flowers on it of some kind. While women are forced to drink as is, there are
probably some sexist connotations there, but waters for wussy’s anyways.
To make the best cup of Turkish coffee, you don't need a cezve or some fincans. See, you're already confused and I'm telling you it doesn't have to be that way! Turkish people love to do this thing where its impossible to translate the ACTUAL word into another language. They are just names for the type of coffee pot and cup used to make the coffee.
2 heaped tsp Turkish coffee powder
2 small espresso cups worth of water
2 tsp sugar (optional)
Serves 2
Take a small and tall saucepan (like this) and add the water, sugar and coffee. Place on medium-high heat and stir until all of the coffee has dissolved into the water. Now stop stirring, but keep a close eye on the coffee. In 3-5 minutes, the coffee will start to bubble over the pot, just as soon as this happens, take the pot off the heat. Skim the residue off the top with a teaspoon and place in the bottom of the cups. Pour the coffee over the residue and serve.
Have you ever tried Turkish coffee? Now you have no excuse but to give it a go!
Love Em xx
Oh no sorry to hear about your post! I would be gutted as well =(
ReplyDeleteI do like coffee, but I don't have a habit of drinking it. Looks good though!
{Teffy's Perks} X
You lucky thing! It has been a habbit of mine for 3 year and these teeth aint getting any whiter :( x
Deleteugh Emine! That's the WORST. I'm mad on your behalf because we're missing out on your lovely writing, too. I love this post and photos, though -- and so funny that men get water but women don't?! My takeway from that is that women must just be the superior sex. Ob-viously. This looks fantastic -- and just what I wish I had on this sluggish Thursday morning. Thanks for soldiering through the Google abduction and posting this for us!
ReplyDeleteIf only women really were the superior sex! Obviously we are in MOST aspects of E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G! And thats no problem, this week was deffo a drag! Thank you for your kind words about my writing too, I struggle a lot with words (no idea why im studying Journalism) so its really nice to here something positive! Have a lovely weekend Cynthia!
DeleteI love Turkish coffee, which in Greece we drink as well. It is strong and beautiful and the best coffee there is.
ReplyDeleteLove your cups :)
Thanks Magda, we have TONS of cups and these were the prettiest ones I could dish out :)
DeleteIndeed, it looks amazing! I simply love Turkish coffee!
ReplyDeleteNever tried it but that coffee looks like it could burn the hairs off the back of your hands :-) Strong! Your cups are gorgeous! I need cups like that!
ReplyDeleteThats a great way to phrase it, its certainly not a coffee I would drink in the morning unless I fancied running around like a lunatic!!
DeleteTo paraphrase the Wizard of Oz: We're a long way from Starbucks here M! Such pretty images btw
ReplyDeleteBe still my caffeinated heart. Turkish coffee brings back the most incredible memories of my time in Turkey. My friend's aunt and uncle invited us over after dinner and - since I was the token American and they were trying to show me everything the country had to offer - they read my fortune in the grinds. Do people actually do that, or was it just an entertain-the-foreigner thing? Either way, I loved it. I love everything about Turkish coffee, and it's impossible to find the real thing in the states. I can't even find the proper vessels! Alright I'll stop complaining, now. But, you know, totally feel free to invite me over for coffee any time (HINT). In the meantime, I'll just drool over your pictures!
ReplyDeleteAppropriately, today's fast food restaurants are trying to deliver great coffee as a result. While the quality, accessibility and taste of coffee season to season depends on The Best Coffee Maker Reviewmany factors - such as weather, environment, ground circumstances, unwanted pests, economic and governmental conditions.
